During the Fall of 2021, we are meeting with team SMCA #12928 weekly in order to exchange information, tips and tricks to improve during this year's FTC season. We have discussed building strategies, technical requirements, organizing communications, materials and code, simulators for testing out code before the robot is completed, outreach ideas and more. In this way, both teams benefit from sharing information that might not have been thought of before.
During the Fall of 2021, the majority of our team is working with grades 5-8 FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams from Meadowridge School. We are each individual mentors for a team, who we stay with throughout the season. Twice a week after school, we assist in teaching the students in robotics clubs, make sure they stay on track, and most importantly guide them to find innovative and creative solution
During the Fall of 2021, we directly mentor another FTC team from Meadowridge School, Heirs of Vulcan (#19443) in all aspects of the challenge. We have an open team-to-team chat between ourselves where we provide suggestions on building, components, coding, outreach, promotions, website design and more. We are always available for questions and concerns as their "student coaches."
During the summer of 2021, members of our team mentored FTC Team Gambia via Zoom once a week for nearly two months as part of the FIRST STEM Corps. Team members mentored Team Gambia in both technical and strategic perspectives. We helped them brainstorm and outline ideas for an app they created to increase COVID-19 awareness in communities in their home country, a demand which was not being met by the international community or Ghanaian government. We also helped direct them towards different coding platforms and languages to use in building the app.
